Practical Nursing - Career Certificate Program

Earn a certificate that will put you on a path to employment and licensure as an LPN.

Why Choose to be a LPN?

Licensed practical nurses make a real difference for patients every day in hospitals, long-term care facilities, rehabilitation centers, home health agencies and physician offices. The satisfaction of helping all types of patients, from an acutely ill elderly man to a new mother and baby, makes this in-demand profession very rewarding.

Students learn current theories and gain a wide range of clinical experiences in local health care facilities, including in medical-surgical nursing, pharmacology and medication administration, geriatric and long-term care nursing, and obstetrical and pediatric nursing. Applicants must meet the criteria to enroll in this limited-access program, including passing entrance exams.

Graduates of this state-approved program are eligible to take the NCLEX-PN state board examination to become licensed practical nurses.

Licensed practical nurses are in high demand at hospitals and health care facilities in South Florida and beyond. Our students often graduate with a degree in one hand and an employment offer in the other.

Important Program Information

Completion of the program requirements for PBSC's Nursing A.S. degree program makes you eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) in Florida or one of the other 36 nursing compact states if you apply for a multistate license under the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). A list of current compact states can be located on the National Council of State Boards of Nursing website: www.nursecompact.com. Note: Student eligibility to apply to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam in Florida is defined in 464.008, F.S., and includes possession of a valid form of identification and a social security number.
