Wellness of the Spirit

By Karen Darter

This fall, a new course joins the Science of Wellness series: Wellness of the Spirit. The 10-hour, four-week course is aligned with the Awareness and Balance Micro-credential pathway and Self-Awareness badge.

This course explores emotional intelligence through gratitude, compassion and empathy. Learning about emotions will help students become self-aware by listening to their bodies, accepting all emotions and gaining perspective on their emotions. When people start to understand their emotions (good or bad), they can show more kindness to others and experience joy and happiness in their lives. Students will use mindfulness practices and journaling to reflect on their emotions and guide them in their everyday lives.

Course participants will gain new ways to look at gratitude beyond just saying “thank you,” such as how to communicate in a meaningful way that speaks emotionally as well. Students will also learn that empathy is “the ability to sense other people’s emotions coupled with the ability to imagine what someone else might be thinking or feeling” (Brené Brown).

The course will end with a mindful art activity that will put the training into perspective and help us use our emotions in a healthy way.
Come join us for an experience that will fill your spirit and give you peaceful mindfulness practices for life.
