Lens of Reflection

By Emily Granados

Taking the Lens of Reflection leadership course has really encouraged me to get back to journaling, on a consistent basis, and I'm so glad! During these unprecedented times, we can all use some quiet time to take a conscious look at our practices, on and off the job! Setting this time aside to reflect on my day, and to really put thought into it, has helped me sort through all of the tabs I usually have open in my brain, and then decide what to do with them. As John Dewey states,”Reflection is a way for teachers to reorganize their thinking, to look at all sides of a situation and to avoid the impulse of doing the same old things, the same old way.” After teaching for several years, this is the slope that we can sometimes slide down. What better way to intentionally think about our day, what did or didn't go well, how we can do better, and most importantly, when to give ourselves grace when things don’t go as we want.  As a center, we are now on a path to encourage the Lens of Reflection course for our staff so that we can all have the advantage of learning from our experiences and continue growing into the best that we can be for our school family and ourselves!
