IEECE engages in training partnership with Loggerhead Marinelife Center
Staff Report
In October, members of IEECE’s training department had the opportunity to instruct staff and volunteers at Loggerhead Marinelife Center on age-appropriate teaching practices for working with young children. The two-day training consisted of presentations, activities, small group discussions and reflection. Topics included child engagement, inquiry-based approaches, discovery learning, movement breaks and child-to-child interaction.
The LMC staff was able to evaluate their current programming and brainstorm a variety of approaches and techniques to more effectively meet the needs of the early childhood populations they serve. They observed a story time for young children that was delivered by an LMC volunteer and were able to provide feedback, drawing on what was learned during the training. The training participants included five staff from the education and programming departments and six volunteers.
