Step 3: Summarize your qualifications for the job you are seeking.

(Functional Resume)

This is an optional section,but you will want to use it if you have additional information that cannot be included in your skill categories.

Your summary of qualifications contains four to six statements that support your job objective.This is placed at the top of your resume, usually after the objective. You can use bulleted statements or write this in narrative format, but it must be relevant to the job you are seeking. Your summary could include:

  • Your education, training or certification in a field.
  • Ability to speak a second language.
  • Knowledge of computer software that is needed to perform the job.
  • Experience related to the job objective.
  • Something about your personal work style or attitude.
  • Special knowledge or skills needed to perform the job.

Try to come up with five key skills relevant to your objective after reviewing the job description.
