2025 Call for Nominations

2025 Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Awards

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Awards were established by Palm Beach State College to honor individuals and organizations that have made major innovative contributions toward improving the lives of others, particularly the underserved, through leadership, service and/or programs. These contributions can be in the areas of education, diversity, race relations, health care, social justice and economic empowerment.

 

The packet must include all of the following:

1. Completed Nomination Form (PDF Fillable): All pages and questions must be completed. Incomplete forms will result in nomination being ineligible for consideration. Please note, in additional to your signature, your application must have two additional signatures attesting to the information provided in support of the nomination and endorsing the candidate.

2. Letter of Nomination: Provide a signed letter of your nomination, summarizing why you believe the nominee should be recognized (one page only).

3. Documentation demonstrating contribution made: Example - news articles, sample of work, event flyers. (This is optional, but strongly encouraged to support your nomination)

4. A high-resolution photograph and candidate biography: A high resolution photograph of the candidate and a biography of no more than 360 words.

 

Deadline

Nomination packets must be emailed, postmarked, or faxed by 5 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2024, in order to be considered.

 

Criteria & Nomination Forms

PBSC Alumni

The nominee must be a Palm Beach State College graduate who holds a degree or certificate. The nominee must be an alumnus/alumna who has performed exemplary service on behalf of others or whose accomplishments have greatly improved the quality of life for his/her community and who, by example, has served as a role model for the underserved.

 

PBSC Faculty/Staff

The nominee must be a current Palm Beach State College faculty or staff (full-time or regular part-time employee) and must have completed at least six months of employment and be in good standing. The nominee must have performed exemplary service to improve the quality of life for an underserved group, whether in the classroom, student life, faculty or staff relations, or through community outreach linked to the College.

 

Individual or Organization

An individual or organization that has improved the quality of life particularly for underserved populations; whose courage or innovation has contributed to the transformation of racial, economic and/or social injustices; and/or has worked for change through nonviolent means and demonstrated commitment to the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

 

 

PBSC Student

The nominee currently must be enrolled in a Palm Beach State College degree or certificate program and must have completed at least one term with an overall 2.5 GPA and/or satisfactory completion. The student must have demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities and significantly contributed to the betterment of the community.
