The IEECE’s Tutoring Program Partners with the College’s Library to Assist ESOL Students
By Laura McCadden
On September 15, 2016, several ESOL cohort students participating in the Institute’s English language learning program visited our Lake Worth Campus library to learn about the myriad of resources for language learners.
With the help of Colleen Shaffer, Library Technician, the students were able to check out Kindles.
Kindles allow students to work on their language skills at their own pace. The Kindle’s dictionary function helps students to see the definition of unfamiliar English words, while they are reading.
Students also were introduced to the library’s Mango Languages program. Mango allows students to practice a variety of English conversations and to watch educational films in English with the choice of English or Spanish subtitles.
Many thanks to Rob Krull, Kristin Lemire and Colleen Shaffer of the Library.

At the College’s library, ESOL students can:
- Practice English conversation skills with fellow students & library staff
- Listen in on English conversations
- Check out a Kindle or an iPad
- Use the computers (Mango Languages program access included)
- Read a newspaper, magazine, or book in English
