Elmo brings excitement to the children of the PNC Grow Up Great “Building Up STEAM” Grant

By Kat Lai

The Institute of Excellence is honored to have been chosen as the lead agency on a $420,000 two-year grant funded by PNC Grow Up Great. The Institute is joining its partners: the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium, the Young At Art Museum, the Broward and Palm Beach Education Foundations, and the Broward and Palm Beach School Districts to enhance the Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math learning and thinking of preschool children in Broward and Palm Beach Counties.

To celebrate this partnership, PNC Grow Up Great and its partner, Sesame Street, brought Elmo to visit children at Village Academy in Delray Beach and Sunland Park Academy Annex in Fort Lauderdale.

Speakers at these events included Cressman Bronson, the Region President of PNC Bank, President Ava Parker, Palm Beach State College, Robin Bartleman, Broward County School Board Member, Daniel Gohl, Chief Academic Officer of Broward County Public Schools, and Principal LaToya Dixon of Village Academy.

This program provides 48 hours of professional development training to the teachers and teacher assistants of selected schools, STEAM learning materials for the classrooms, STEAM toys and activities for the children and their families, field trips to museums, discounted museum membership for families and teachers, special events in the classrooms, and many other exciting benefits.

The Institute is excited to participate in this program.
