Review Checklist for Resume Problems
Does your resume have any of the following?

   
  • Spelling errors, typos, and poor grammar
  • Failure to explain accomplishments from past & current jobs
  • Missing dates or inaccurate information
  • Unprofessional e-mail address
  • Poor formatting (boxes, templates, use of headers/footers)
  • Long, dense paragraphs; not using bullet points
  • Resumes over two pages for experienced job seekers or one page for job seekers with little related experience
  • No relevant qualifications for the position you are applying for
  • Personal information not relevant to the job (e.g. hobbies, interests, marital status, reason for leaving a job, etc.)
  • Lying and misleading information

  • Meaningless employment objectives (often too general)
  • Changing font style throughout the resume
  • Poorly organized resume
  • Confusing summary of qualifications or unrelated to job objective
  • Resume writing with first person (I) reference or third person (he, she, they)
  • Unexplained gaps in employment
  • Written with complete sentences rather than phrases starting with action verbs
