- Failure to explain accomplishments from past & current jobs

- Missing dates or inaccurate information

- Unprofessional e-mail address

- Poor formatting (boxes, templates, use of headers/footers)

- Long, dense paragraphs; not using bullet points

- Resumes over two pages for experienced job seekers or one page for job seekers with little related experience

- No relevant qualifications for the position you are applying for

- Personal information not relevant to the job (e.g. hobbies, interests, marital status, reason for leaving a job, etc.)

- Lying and misleading information

- Meaningless employment objectives (often too general)

- Changing font style throughout the resume

- Confusing summary of qualifications or unrelated to job objective

- Resume writing with first person (I) reference or third person (he, she, they)

- Unexplained gaps in employment

- Written with complete sentences rather than phrases starting with action verbs
